Joining from the Junior Club?
The senior club are always keen to welcome players from the junior club and give them their first taste of open age football. Its a well trodden path with a huge of influx of new players over the last few years. Here’s what some of them have had to say about the transition: James Cooper – Centre Back – started the season as a 3rd team member and his performances were such a level that he moved through the 2nd team and into the 1st team squad within a matter of 6 games to become an integral member of the squad before a knee injury cut his season short “The teams are really open for allowing movement upwards and therefore playing at a higher standard. Everyone is massively friendly and the Christmas do was outstanding. Just a really amazing club”
Dominic Dunn – Right Wing – involved straight away in the 1st team squad. Looked completely at ease at that level. His pace and ability was a constant threat whenever he was involved. Looking forward to see him testing himself in the Premier Divison next year “Its a big step up but I’ve really enjoyed it. I think physically you have to be up for the challenge but team mates help you through the experience with encouragement. Being part of that team is a great thing and everyone respects each other and there is a great togetherness within the squad. Now that we have been promoted its a definite boost and we need all the strength in depth we can get”
Will Reece – Centre Forward - was top scorer and Golden Boot winner in his first season at the club playing exclusively in the 1st team. Made an important contribution last year when he was home from University “So glad I carried on with Sports after juniors, great group of lads and non-stop banter. Been a great season and I hope some of the juniors make the step up and help Sports especially after promotion! Cheers, Will” David Hall – Midfield – transitoned from Juniors really well, handled the physical element of Senior football particularly impressively.
“If you want a genuine chance to play- not watch- mens football next year at a good standard then Sports is still the club for you. Fantastic group of guys, its been very exciting joining the league and cup chase with them this last year. Cheers, Dave.” Ciaran Clarke – Defender / Midfielder – a player with ability across numerous positions makes him a strong asset. Another great example of someone who impressed in the 3rd and 2nd team made is inclusion in 1st team inevitable very quickly “When I was playing in the thirds and got picked for the firsts I was very impressed. I thought that the firsts would be a set team but for the rest of the season I realised how welcoming the club was to young players. I’ve felt my game has massively improved this year and every Saturday has been a good laugh win or lose. Our managers insistence on us getting the ball down and playing has been very impressive and I would highly recommend any young players moving to the club.”
